How Important Is Sex In A Relationship?
In Relationships and Marriage

Sex is something that most people think about a lot when it comes to dating. How long should you wait? Should you wait until you’re married, or at least in a serious relationship? You should go for it on your first date? When it comes to being intimate with someone, we all go at our own speeds. But in general how important is sex to the ultimate health of a relationship? There are some that would say that sex is not something that should not affect your relationship, but I would definitely disagree.

A positive relationship is based on a lot of different factors including trust, friendship, companionship, and chemistry. At any point in our relationship we can be doing well or not so well in any of those areas. While your physical chemistry and attraction may not be the most important factor in your relationship, it is a factor. Humans have physical needs that at one point or another come to the forefront. While you might be able to deal with an awkward physical chemistry for a period of time, after a while it starts to weigh heavily on the relationship. Let’s face it, a great relationship with no intimate physical aspect is really just an amazing friendship.

It’s important for two people in a relationship to have similar interests and opinions when it comes to sex. Like anything else in a relationship you work towards compromising at any differences in interests or opinion, but the relationship will only work if the differences are small enough to be able to compromise. There are some personalities that really just can’t make it work together because they are so different that there’s a complete lack of understanding of what is important to each other. Dealing with each other’s interests when it comes to sex is an important step in any relationship and something that shouldn’t be brushed aside as it could cause major issues later on.

Being open about your sexual needs and wants is important in keeping your relationship healthy.  While you don’t have to jump into sex until you’re ready, it’s important to at least discuss your views and opinions on it with your significant other just to make sure you guys are on the same page.  A little talking early on in your relationship can save both of you a lot of awkwardness later on, and possibly even give the sexual aspect of your relationship a boost.  Being able to work out differences early on, or even possibly finding out that your sexual interests are more in tune with each other than you might have thought, can bring you closer together for the ultimate health of your relationship.
