Juno manages to make an unwed pregnancy somewhat funny and wildly entertaining. Juno MacGuff (Ellen Page) is a smart and sarcastic high schooler who finds out she’s pregnant from a night with her close friend Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera). Juno chooses to have the baby and give it up to a nice couple, but the journey of pregnancy starts to wear on her. Struggling through issues with her family, Bleeker, the husband of her supposed adoptive couple, and normal everyday high school stuff, Juno looks to find the truth in her life.

I really loved this film. What makes Juno so great is that the whole vibe of the film totally fits it’s primary character. Ellen Page delivers an amazing performance as Juno that makes you believe they are one in the same. The satirical atmosphere is present in all aspects of the film from the writing, direction, and soundtrack that they all just work together like one big happy family. The subdued performance by Michael Cera fits Paulie Bleeker to a tee, and does so in a way that compliments Page’s performance instead of fighting for the spotlight. The rest of the characters blend perfectly in a light hearted offbeat manner that mimics the average daily life of all of us. It’s this realism that makes Juno so likable. When we go to movies it’s partly to escape and be entertained, but there is something special about a film that can relate to you on a personal level. This film manages to do that in a big way which makes the emotional attachment to the characters and the outcome very strong.

As a date movie, Juno scores high marks. While the subject matter of a teen pregnancy may be a little heavy for a traditional date movie, the offbeat comedy makes the subject matter entertaining for all audiences. The undeniable cuteness of Juno and Bleeker drive the movie and make it fun for everyone. Their blatant honesty and precociousness will keep you laughing at times when you least expect it. The sharp-witted comedy makes the film attractive to all ages, and really all relationship levels. There is some real emotion and serious content in the movie that will pull your heart strings and make you think about how real teen pregnancy is nowadays, but it only adds to the value of Juno. A great film that will have you smiling, laughing, and crying until the end.
